In the eyes of Jesus
A short reflection on "in the eyes of Jesus"
> People get the blind man to Jesus
> Jesus leads him out of the village
> Puts saliva on his eyes and lays hands on him
> Inquires if he can see
> He sees people but in the form of trees walking
> Jesus lays His hands on his eyes second time
> Sight is restored again
Reflection:-
This is the only episode in the Bible where you will find Jesus laying His hands twice on a man. Why didn't it not work at the first time itself?? This was the question asked to me by my friend as I was pondering on this topic "In the eyes of Jesus" for days together. Well, it's no accident that this topic relates to this episode.
The main question to think is "why did Jesus take the blind man out of the village?" If you read the previous chapters the Pharisees and Scribes asks Jesus to show signs; wherein, just a moment back Jesus fed 4000 men excluding women and children. After that even His disciples fail to realize Jesus' whole point i.e. to not to worry about anything because He is able. Amidst of all this, the blind man is brought to Him. Since it's no point in trying to make prove to people anything more about Him, He takes the blind man out of the village.
If you closely analyse, there are total 3 healings of the blind properly described:-
1) Mk. 8:22-26
2) Mk. 10:46-52
3) Jn. 9:1-12
But in this case Jesus reassures if he can see. And the man says he can see people but like trees walking. There could be two conclusions which I got inspired about i.e. either the man got the eye sight of how God sees us or to see if even this man has doubt in Him.
We see a lot of references to fruits, vine, branches, fig tree, tree of Life and tree of death, etc etc. In all this, Jesus says He's the vine and we are the branches, he who hears the Word of God and obeys bears much fruit. So could it be like that we are like trees in God's sight. If we live a righteous life, we will bear good fruits and not only a few seasons, but throughout our life because that person is aware that He's just a branch of Christ's body and ought to bear good fruits. Whilst, a person who isn't aware of this thing will whine about very silly things happening in his life.
The second statement regarding this is that Jesus might have had healed him but he didn't realize it and therefore Jesus laid His hands again. This I say because for the first time he just "looked up" whereas in the second he "looked intently".
God really heals us but while we receive it in faith, while our intellect makes us realize that its never possible and unlikely thing to believe in. But if you have full faith without wavering then, not even the facts from Google can change your mind! And that's what kind of faith we all need to have.
Sometimes, God doesn't reveal to you anything, but He keeps on purifying you with His words and then your eyes get opened and then Jesus vanishes since His mission is done in you i.e. to make you aware about Him. This is the same thing which happened with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. So always walk in the light and be like shining stars★ to Jesus from the Earth.
As I end, my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, never ever think that you are alone in the journey of your life, you have an awesome companion with you who never leaves you nor forsakes you. Like how God sees us with compassion, so should you see your friends and enemies, because the scripture says, "for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 NRSV"
